The latest Usetrace software release replaced one of our main user interfaces: The All Traces list. Our heaviest users have over 1000 traces. Managing such a large number of traces requires that the trace list offers efficient searching and sorting mechanism, mass operations, and it must be fast.
Here’s a summary of what the latest release brings on the Trace List.
Enhanced searching and sorting
The enhanced searching and sorting helps you to run and manage subsets of your traces. The new features are:
- Separate filters for tags and trace names
- Separate filtering with tags and trace name
- Tag filtering does an AND search: find traces that have many tags
- Name filtering supports searching with word prefixes. E.g. “Login Fail” can be found by searching for “L F”
- New sort options: by name, ‘last modified’ and ‘failed first’
The sort option “failed first” comes handy when you’ve just run your traces and need to investigate new failures. Sort by “failed first” and you’ll have the failed traces positioned on top of the list, so you don’t need to browse through the whole list anymore. The “last modified” sort helps you when you don’t remember what trace you just edited a moment ago and need to find it again.
New mass-operations
The mass-operations can save you a lot of time. The new operations are:
- Run selected traces
- Delete selected traces
- Copy selected traces
- Add tags to selected traces
Other improvements
We have completely rewritten how the trace list is rendered, focusing on speed. This gives a performance boost that makes it possible to do searching and sorting on thousands of traces without delays.
A minor but handy feature we added is that the trace description is also visible directly on the trace list.
We hope you love the new trace list. Send feedback in the blog comments or via the Usetrace in-app feedback feature.
